Why road salt is generally harmful

Step 1: Clean your sneakers thoroughly
Never start by protecting dirty sneakers. Dirt and dust prevent the protective layer from adhering properly. Use a sneaker cleaner and a microfiber cloth to thoroughly clean your shoes. Pay particular attention to seams and hard-to-reach areas where dirt accumulates.
Tip: Let your sneakers dry for at least 24 hours before protecting them.
Step 2: Apply a protective layer
A good protective spray is essential for winter. Choose a high-quality sneaker protector that forms an invisible and breathable layer against dirt and salt. For best results:
- Spray 20-30 cm away from the shoe, or 6-8 cm away if using a sprayer.
- Apply several thin layers instead of one thick layer. Choose two layers if using a sprayer.
- Let each layer dry for 15-20 minutes. This isn't necessary when using a sprayer.
- Repeat this process 2-3 times for optimal protection. With a sprayer, your shoes are protected after one application, but an extra layer doesn't hurt in winter.

Step 3: Winter Maintenance

- Let sneakers dry at room temperature (never on a radiator!).
- Stuff wet sneakers with newspaper to absorb moisture and maintain their shape.
Weekly Maintenance:
- Clean your sneakers with a soft brush or cloth.
- Check if the protective layer is still intact.
- Apply a new layer of protection if necessary.

Step 4: Removing Salt Stains

- Mix a solution of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water.
